Chairman's Foreword 2016/17 Season
It is a great honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to be your club Chairman for the 2016/17 season and I will do my upmost to ensure that this great golf club is taken forward and improved in all areas during my tenure. Having been a member of the club since August last year I have found that it is an extremely welcoming club with many friendly characters and good banter throughout and long may it remain that way. I have been very impressed by the standard of the golf course and that hard work that the previous Committee put in to ensure the club is a great success.
We have a new Committee which I think has a very good balance between those who are serving and those who are not and with this comes a wealth of experience and knowledge across the board. We must never forget that we are a Joint Services Golf Club and an Encroachment within Episkopi Station and with this we must adhere to the various rules and regulations that are directed to us in order to remain valid and up to date. We must continue to attract more members, both Entitled and Non-Entitled in order to increase our numbers and we should take every opportunity to promote this great club.
My ethos is simple – ADD VALUE in all that you do and you will gain the rewards of your endeavours. It requires all of us within the club to participate and get stuck in, no matter what the event is and I urge you all to get involved and add value to your golf club. My direction to the new Committee is quite clear; we must ensure that we are fully transparent in all that we do and inform all of our Members of what is going on. I am sure that you will agree, the great work carried out thus far by the Club Manager and the Handicap Secretary on the revised and updated website is fantastic and gives all Members the information of what is going on in and around the club. As you will have no doubt spotted on your recent rounds, there are lots of little improvements taking place throughout the course and these will be informed to you through the website. The Club working weekend on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September will allow us all to join in with these improvements, so please look to get involved in this event. We are maintaining a very keen and close eye on the work that is taking place at the JSGC(D) with the relaying of their greens and very soon I will be paying a visit to see the standard that has been set and look into the possibility of the same happening here at our club. It is much needed I am fully aware, but we must ensure that we get it right and do not rush into something that is going to cost a lot of money.
There are a number of competitions that have been arranged for the coming season and a lot of hard work will be put in to running these events by the Competitions Secretary; it will need your participation to make these work and after all, playing golf is what we are all about so I strongly encourage your participation in these events. The website is also informing us all of other Island wide competitions and we as a club should look to participate in these as well.
My closing theme to you all is enjoy your golf, enjoy the camaraderie and banter that takes place in the clubhouse and I urge each and every one of you to get fully involved – it is your golf club and without you it would not happen. I look forward to playing a round of golf with you or sharing a drink in the clubhouse after an event and wish you all the very best in your endeavours both on and off the course.
