Age is Just a Number
Well hello again and it’s good to be back. Now is the time to replenish your beer glass or get a cup of tea or coffee if it is morning time and you are reading this. Three reports in one this week after my trip to see what rain and cloud looks like in the UK!
We start off with the O&B trip to Secret Valley on the 8th of Aug to take advantage of their summer offer. 16 of our number turned out on another summer day but at least the buggy’s created a bit of a breeze to help. Those of you who have played the new course will know that the front 9 is quite tough going around the hills with tight fairways a must to hit or you can end up in the deep gully to the right of most of them! Scores were quite respectable and we have to go up to 30pts to get a mention and that honour goes to Geoff Steen. Rob Aherne must have enjoyed the use of a buggy as he put together a round of 31pts to claim the 4 Euro voucher for 4th position. Our Chairman Mike Farmer also managed to keep the ball in play for 32pts, claiming 3rd spot and the 6 Euro voucher. A very respectable 34pts was good enough for the runner-up slot and Blue Turnpenny was a very happy man to walk away with the 8 Euro voucher. Now for the winner and all I can say is that he must have stayed off the beer at half-way house…..! Coming in with an outstanding gross 74, blowing the field away with 40pts was the club Vice-Captain Clive Synnuck. Well done Clive, enjoy your trip to the Twin Arches….! Clive submitted his card to the handicap Sec and can now boast that he is playing off 8 over 18 holes…..!
Back to Episkopi 12 hole summer course for O&B on the 15 Aug. Sunny yet again put a pleasant breeze helped to keep the temperature down to low 30s…..! 10 members ventured out and good to have Brain Basting back in the fold again. Reasonable scores once again and 21pts was good enough for Allan McEwan to get a mention. The star man from last week, Clive Synnuck playing off his new handicap still managed to come in with 22pts playing off 6 over 12 holes to claim the 4 Euro voucher for 4th spot. The man with the buggy, Pat Craft put a steady round together once again to take the 6 Euro voucher and 3rd position with 23pts. Beating Pat on c/b to claim the runner-up slot was Mr Golf himself Alan Young who enjoyed picking up the voucher for 8 Euro. The winner for this week and never far away was Steve Bishop who came in with a very respectable 25pts to take the meal voucher. Don’t know what happened to the voucher though as it is a long way to come from Mandria to visit the Twin Arches!
To bring us right up to date with our results we now come to this week’s competition. Good to have Nigel back and myself although neither of us played. Also Rick and Graham I. Another hot day but with a strong breeze to help with the temperature, but making life a little difficult on the putting green! Graham Ibbotson celebrated his return with a mention for 21pts! Still coming in the prizes was that man Clive Synnuck who once again came in with 22pts, which was good enough for the 4 Euro voucher and 4th place. Going one better and claiming 3rd spot and the 6 Euro voucher for his 23pts was Dave Lyons. Runner-up this week and also good to see him back was Moray Campbell, who put together a round of 24pts to claim the 8 Euro voucher. The winner this week, beating Moray on c/b to claim top spot and also the meal voucher, and also celebrating his return was Rick Pharoah. Well done Rick, enjoy your trip to the Twin Arches.
Well that’s us all up to date. I did see Ron Marsh before our departure to “Blighty” and just in case you are not aware, he is not playing golf at the moment as he has injured his back. I want to say now that there is no truth in the rumour that he did it picking up a 2 cent piece that he spotted on the floor…..!
O&B next week as normal, 12 hole course 1030 first Tee and you never know, yours truly could be making an appearance so no going off early…..!
