Summer League Week 2 Report
27 Players turned up on the 1st of July to join the draw and play in the second round of the 2018 Summer League, drawn in 6 four balls and one three ball matches, without incident (the chronicler creates his own truths), A warm welcome to Sheila Highet and Dom Padden who joined the SL for the first time the rest of the field being old hands, some even thought it would be worth € 3 but no, we only take € 2.5 per entry, maybe next year. The weather was lovely and cool (well it is July) at the 0900 shotgun start and a cooling sea breeze continued to make for a pleasant round of golf, well 2/3rds of a round, we played holes 1 to 12 and came in at 1130 more or less in good shape, shortly thereafter the kitchen was buzzing with the Vichyssoise (classic soup made from leeks and potatoes served chilled with fresh chopped chives) this was accompanied with hot leek and potato soup, some queried hot soup in July but faced with the alternative most went with the hot version all served with rolls and cheese! The 9 pizzas were ready before the soup was finished, cut into quarters and served with salad including excellent Cole slaw, (provided by the girls and took the hint) the whole lunch was over by one o’clock and cleanup crews were busy tidying the kitchen and many thanks to everybody who brought food or helped cook, serve, and clean in the kitchen, it does seem to be a little unfair if it is the same faces always helping in the kitchen each week, so let’s volunteer before being asked and get stuck in, don’t leave it to girls all the time! A special mention for Graham Ibbotson for preventing the Pizzas from burning and he generally kept things flying out of the kitchen, thanks mate!
The golf was brilliant, the course hardening up and adding yards to our shots, sometimes even in the correct direction, the greens where the layers of sand have been removed are playing very nicely, ‘though not for the faint of heart..
And finally a huge thanks to our fellow competitors for making the day so enjoyable.
Back to normal next week on Saturday morning of the 7th July.
